The locomotive, owned by the
Delta Consolidated Mining Co., operated near Delta, California.   It was named "The Doctor".
The image was published in a 1950's souvenir program entitled "Shasta Damboree" for an annual event of the same name.

The lower image is from the Gill Hoffman collection at Mississippi Rails.

There is a discrepancy in the railroad name noted on the Climax Locomotives site (Derby & Southwestern Railroad) and that noted on the Mississippi Rails site (Derby & Southeastern Railroad).    While the name on the Climax Locomotives site accurately reflects the original Climax Locomotive Works records, we believe the name noted by Gill Hoffman and the Mississippi Rails site is the correct name due to their expertise in Mississippi logging and lumbering railroads.

The railway's parent company was the Dexter Sulphite Pulp & Paper Co
The company owned two Climaxes.  This one and s/n 560.  This locomotive's s/n is unknown and carries the "unknown s/n" designation number noted.
