Based on sparse information on this locomotive, this web author has made an educated "wild" guess as to its ownership identity at the time of the photograph..

Facts:

• The engineer's name is Walter Deaton of  Mississippi.
  
  
• The factory installed number spot plate is #9.   This road number has been kept by the owner in the photo as evidenced by the same number painted on the cab & sand dome. 
  
  
• Per the company roster listing in the book "The Heisler Locomotive 1891 - 1941", the only factory delivered #9 spot locomotive with an owner or railroad name beginning with an "R" was to the company noted above.  
  

Conjectures:

• The letter "R" appears as the beginning letter of a word painted at the rear center of the locomotive water tank, just back of the gentleman's hat being held out the cab door.        
  
  

• The fact that the company was located in Mississippi and the engineer pictured was from Mississippi lends credit to my deduction.

Please E-mail me your opinions, criticisms, or thoughts on the identity of this locomotive.   My interest is to properly identify this locomotive. My conjectures may be totally incorrect, but it gives a starting point for discussion.  All the information I have on this locomotive is listed above.
