Each spring, the Cass Scenic Railroad opens the tourist season with a special event known as the Cass Railfan Weekend. Trains are operated at that time that are not a part of the regular season's schedule. Pentrex brings you these extra runs and captures the excitement that brings crowds back to Cass year after year.

In a spectacular display, the event opens with a parade of steam. Three engines run side by side down triple track spewing forth great volumes of smoke, thrilling the crowd with their antics. Then it's off to Bald Knob with a tripleheaded passenger train followed closely by an authentic log grain pulled by a Heisler.

The old Shay locomotives make numerous runbys as they struggle to conquer the 11% grades up the mountainside.  Ride along in the cabs as the firemen work intensely to keep the hungry engines fueled with shovel after shovelful of coal.  Watch as the intricate system of shafts, flywheels and gears are seen close up, straining to pull the trains uphill.
