Allen-Dubal CollectionThe last new Heisler geared steam locomotive (c/n 1607), was shipped by the company on April 10, 1941 to the Middle Fork Railroad of Ellamore, West Virginia. The 80 ton, three truck, West Coast Special model had been built several years earlier for stock, but remained unsold until the April, 1941 date.
The restoration begins.... 1999The locomotive is currently (as of June, 1999) under restoration:

Looking forward from a position near the normal location of the crew cab. The rear of the motor looking toward the front of the locomotive. The left and right cylinders dominate the view. End truck gear case (front or rear?). In this picture, if installed, the pinion shaft would be positioned horizontally and the axle would be vertically. Ring gear (large gear on the left), pinion gear and shaft (smaller gear in center) and main shaft (right).
